Our history

Initially, our group was founded by the Alcopa Group. Our history goes way back with the import of motorcycles between World War 1 and World War 2. In the sixties, our group started to focus on cars, with the import and even the assembly of BMW cars at our Antwerp location. During the sixties we produced 6 different types of BMW models, amongst which the very popular 300 (Isetta), the 1602 and 2002.

After this era, our car-import branch quickly expanded with brands such as Suzuki, Hyundai and Mitsubishi. Pioneering work was carried out, especially with Suzuki and Hyundai. Our group was the first company to sign a distribution contract for Europe with Hyundai.

In the recent years, we expanded our portfolio with brands like SsangYong, Maxus and MG, challenger brands who chose Alcomotive to take care of the distribution in several countries.

Alcomotive as such, is a fairly young company. Early 2017, the former companies Alcadis transformed into Alcomotive. Ever since, Alcomotive has been a major actor on the import-scene, and now represents a large portfolio of car- and LCV brands.

In 2020 the mother-holding Alcopa established a joint venture with Bergé Auto, a leading Spanish group specialized in the distribution of car brands throughout the world. From that point on, Alcomotive is now jointly owned by Bergé Auto (60%) and Alcopa (40%). Both companies are family owned and we share the same way of business conduct.

Since 1979, Bergé Auto (www.bergeauto.com) has established itself as a strategic, long-term partner for most of the world-leading brands, sharing a common goal: building a meaningful, long lasting relationship with our customers. Our globally integrated corporate structure allows a homogeneous operating model, ensuring “cross country” reliability of our business.
